“Flinders Ports can confirm that there is a deceased whale currently beached at Outer Harbor. The cause of death is currently being investigated by the relevant authorities.
“An attempt to dislodge the whale today was unsuccessful and a further attempt will be made tomorrow, if weather permits on Tuesday 28 August, when tidal conditions will be more favourable. The incident is not affecting shipping and the channel remains fully open.
“Flinders Ports are collaborating with the relevant authorities to ensure the animal can be removed humanely. While Flinders Ports understands the public’s interest and concern linked to this unfortunate incident, we strongly encourage people not to try to get close to the whale. The breakwater where the whale is located is highly dangerous.”
